CR: Our first guest is
the dashing costar of such films as the Net, and Gosford Park, and
the Winslow Boy, which is one
of my favorite movies ever. Now he can be seen as Dean in the upcoming CBS
movie Martin and Lewis.
Please welcome, oh he's handsome, Jeremy Northam.
[Camera cuts to JN backstage walking on then cuts to audience and JN appears
from the side entrance on the stage. JN waves to audience and walks over to
Caroline and kisses both of her cheeks. They sit down]
CR: I love that British custom of the two sided kiss.
JN: Yeah, I don't know, everyone
says, oh you're being European. I just, you know, it's just a good excuse to
have two kisses.
CR: Well, you get more bang for your buck. I like that.
JN: That's what I say.
CR: Yes. Now you are an excellent bad boy.
JN: Oh, thank you.
CR: Do you think that's a good thing. Don't you find that. That you're always
playing...
JN: Depends on what you mean by
that...
CR: ...The really good evil guy.
JN: Oh, I see.
CR: But then you turn around and be a good guy.
JN: Well, you know, I never like
to uh, I know that sounds a bit boring to say so, but I never like to try to do
the same thing twice, you know.

CR: No, you're always different.
JN: Well, I hope so.
CR: Yes.
JN: I try.
CR: And yet always pretty hunky.

[Caroline and audience laughs, JN gives a big smile.]
CR: Now, you went to an all boys school in England?
JN: I did, yeah.
CR: And how was that? I went to an all girl's school.
JN: Ah, I would never do it to a
child of mine.

CR: Really.
JN: I don't hold any grudges
against my parents. I just think it's an unhealthy situation to be in. And it
became..
CR: It makes you have a warped thing about the other sex.
JN: Well, yes, strange. I mean
it's like the first time I ever hung out with girls was when I was like 15. I
started doing plays, I think, to hang out with girls.

CR: Oh, really.
JN: 'Cause we did plays with
other schools.
CR: Oohhh...
JN: So...
CR: Oh, not us, we had to play the men.
JN: Well that's, that's...
CR: Did you have to play women?
JN: Well, that happened at our
school too. You know, um, we always did, we always had to do a bit of cross
dressing. I didn't.
[Caroline laughs]
JN: It always fell upon the
smallest boy
of
the year. Somehow to uh, you know...
CR: the girl
JN: Yeah, absolutely.
CR: It wasn't burden enough to be the smallest child, he also had to be dressed
as a woman.
JN: Exactly, exactly.
