Harry Potter CoS
Queensland Premiere
Pictures taken
by Cara and Amanda, Australian members of Brisbane Harry Potter Fan Club
Here's their
story:
Cara
from the Brisbane Harry Potter Fan Club sent me a recap of her experience
meeting Jason Isaacs at the Queensland, Australia Chamber of Secrets premiere.
We got to the Premiere and had to wait on the red carpet for about half an
hour before Jason arrived. As we were up the top end of the carpet and he came
down the bottom end, we weren't sure if we'd even get to see him up close so we
took millions of photos as he slowly came closer. He signed autographs for
anyone who asked or thrust a piece of paper at him, asking their names and
writing a little message, which we thought was so very lovely! As he slowly
approached some guy from The Courier Mail (big QLD
paper) decided to take photos of us, but we were ushered off the red carpet so
we wouldn't kidnap him or something :) So we were now on the press side of the
carpet and Jason came right up to us, glanced at us and continued signing
autographs for kids. He obviously thought we were actors from Movieworld or
press, so even though I waved my piece of paper at him, he would just glance at
us and keep moving. We were distraught when the PR told him he needed to get
inside so the movie could start, and we hadn't even
gotten his autograph! A guy from another newspaper (who we now wish to kill, but
more about that later) told us to jump the rope and go right up to him. Knowing
we had to do this or die of shame, we strolled up to him, and he looked at us
(probably because we were about 3 feet taller then all of the kids surrounding
him. (Now here for my dodgy, what-I-think-happened transcript):
Jason: Hi, where are you two
girls from?
Us: We're from the Brisbane Harry Potter Fan Club!
J: (startled, wide eyed with surprise)
Really? You're kidding!
U: No, we really are!
J: How old are you?
U: 19.
J: Oh my god, aren't you too old for
this?! You need therapy!
U: Why?
J: A Harry Potter Fan Club? You
girls need help!
U: No we don't! (Hoping he is joking)
J: No, I'm only joking! I have
fiends older then me who are huge fans of the books.
U: (beaming)
J: So who do you think Jo is going
to kill off in the next book? It's supposed to be someone she's really fond of
isn't it?
U: (Amanda really) Hagrid!
J: (horrified) Hagrid? You're
kidding!
U: Well, he's the only character who is nice that's expendable. But it could be
Lucius!
J: Nah, it won't be me, she doesn't
like me does she!?
U: (Laugh)
J: (asks our names for autograph, tells us how we need help and therapy)
OK, see you later girls.
U: Bye!
He'd written: Cara, Love + Luck + Therapy, Jason Isaacs.
and: Amanda, Love + Luck + Help, Jason Isaacs.
We were rapt, but not offended, he insulted us in the nicest possible way. So in
fact we were very flattered! He came up to the podium and said a
few words ("Parents have asked me if this film is really scary and I'll tell
you now, I'm going to be sitting up the back and if anyone talks when I'm on
screen, I'm going to follow you home and get you!" and so on). He actually sat 2
seats behind us, with a huge group of his family, and we're praying he didn't
hear our gushing and giggling, particularly when he tried to
kill Harry outside Dumbledore's office, when we wore that amusing Pilgrim-esque
hat and a black bow in his hair. At the end as everyone left during the credits,
except for us, a few people on the other side of the cinema and Jason and co. He
kept saying "Just wait. It's worth it!" and when the special Lockhart scene came
up, he roared with laughter. Something tells me he was good friends with Kenneth
Branaugh!
Well, that's about it, we didn't get to speak to him again, but he smiled at
us as we watched him sign more autographs in the foyer. We did see him
again the following Wednesday at the other Premiere thing we went to, but he
was in costume as Mr Darling and was obviously there for the intro speech
before hurrying back on set for Peter Pan. He did look at us though, probably
amazed to see us out of costume (we were wearing full Gryffindor
uniforms by the way, cloaks and all in stiffling heat) and in cocktail dresses,
but
we were too shy to go right up the front and take pictures, though we
regret it now.
